The National Literacy Trust have created a resource on their website called the Family Zone. This website is divided into age groups and is full of free activities and ideas to keep your child busy at home, whilst also benefiting their reading, writing and language development.

The resources include:

• Simple and fun Small Talk videos to help parents chat, play and read with their young child
• Top tips for enjoying audiobooks as a family
• A guide to building a reading den at home
• A Reading Miles Global Challenge to encourage children to read around the world
• Activity sheets based on popular children’s books, including Where’s Wally?, as well as playful learning activities featuring much-loved CBeebies characters
• Exciting author videos, including live stories with author Steve Antony, draw-along sessions with illustrator Rob Biddulph and poetry workshops with Sarah Crossan

In addition, the ‘Time together’ booklet has been created, which includes ideas of simple activities that families can do together with young children at home. 

Secondary Schools in Wolverhampton are currently organising transition activities for all Year 6 pupils in the city and will be contacting you shortly if they have not already done so. Transition will begin from 29th June 2020 and the individual schools will be in touch with dates and times for your child.

This is the information we currently have and how you should expect to hear from your child’s school:

Moreton:

• Tuesday 30th June 2020 8.30am – 10.25am
• Text, emails and letters are being sent to families as well as phone calls being made 
• Videos are being used to support communication 
• Transition information is also on the school website

Our Lady and St Chad Catholic Academy:

• All pupils will be invited for one face to face visit in small primary school groups, from 29 June 2020 
• Information is being sent via text link 
• Letters are being sent to families with details of the transition plans
• Visit St Chad’s school website

Ormiston NEW Academy:

• All Year 6 pupils are being offered a set of three, once per week, face to face visits from 29 June 2020 
• Plans are being confirmed this week and parents will receive a letter with details as soon as possible from 22 June

The Khalsa Academy:

• All Year 6 pupils are being offered a set of three, once per week, face to face visits from 29 June 2020
• Details are being confirmed but are likely to include a 2-hour morning visit for pupils in small primary groups, pupils will be offered a fixed day each week 
• Calls are being made to all Year 6 families and a letter will be sent to confirm arrangements

Heath Park:

• Year 6 pupils will be invited for short transition visits from 29 June in ¼ year groups. These will be for either two mornings or afternoons for three weeks (eg Mon and Tues morning every week) 
• Postcards have been sent to families
• Letters will be sent to parents when plans are confirmed, calls are also being made
• Information is available on pop ups on the school website

Wednesfield High:

• Face to face visits are being planned for the September 2020 INSET days 
• Virtual induction days for groups of Year 6 pupils are planned on 7th July 2020
• Parents will be contacted directly, with additional information about what to expect in September, before the end of the summer term
